Coil Wire

I recently changed my cap and rotor and my coil wire got relocated too close to the fan. It got shaved down by the fan blades. It shaved through the plastic sleeve, through the black coating and some of the white inner coating. I put a bunch of electrical tape on it and it seems to work fine. I feel that I should get a new wire, any thoughts? ( i'm too thrifty)
I also noticed a little oil inside the distributor cap. It is not coming from the o-ring or the valve cover, I read a post about this being common. Some one mentioned replacing the check valve b/w valve cover and intake manifold. Should this take care of that oil issue? Is that the word?
Thanks,
