The torque of the nut has little to do with the longevity of the bearing provided it is tight enough to firmly pull both halves of the bearing together. The bearings are essentially two bearing face to face in one housing and once the two inner races are touching they are captive and do not adjust further. Although there is a slight chance that they were overtorqued I have never seen a fellow tech nor have I ever used a torque wrench on them. We just bang them down with an impact gun. More likely is that the previous bearings were pressed in improperly(pressed against the inner race rather than the housing) or were of poor quality.
