IMHO a cure is about $120 and several hours. You'll need a new plastic circuit foil, there are two of them, one for the right side and the other for the left side. I think the one you need is the right side...it has a long finger at the top of the foil that comes across the instrument panel and provides the power for the lights. This foil gets worn/burnt by the contacts and/or the warped/browned area of plastic around the hot little 5W bulbs Saab used. You'll have to remove the instrument cluster and replace the foil. Generally the bulb holders are good.
Alternatively, for about $35, I got a spare complete instrument cluster from saabsavior.com. Just replace the entire instrument cluster. Downside here is the speedometer/odometer won't have your current mileage so you either have to keep track of the diffo or reset the odometer.
Resetting the odometer is a piece of cake the second time you do it..you'll probably destroy the first one figuring out how it works if you're klutzy like me. Just remove the speedometer from the instrument cluster and tap back the long wire/pin above the odo that holds the secondary gears...the primary wheels/gears (the ones with numbers on them) can then be turned to whatever you want. I reset a new speedo/odo to close to the actual mileage on my car by just adjusting the left most wheel...as it happened I was only 8K off since I had put a new speedo on at 192K and ran it for about 50K and then got around to adjusting the new speedo the to "correct" 250K when it should have been 242K. But that would have required adjusting three wheels and my dirty paws leave prints....you might want to use rubber gloves.
All of the above regarding speedo/odometer calibration is just for information and does not imply violation of any local laws regarding odometer tampering!!! You're on your own here and will probably end up having to classify the car as 'mileage unknown' once you're done.
