All the time when I do the brakes on an ABS equipped car I clean out the sensor and toothed wheel.
The reason for that is, a lot of metal debris get stuck to the sensor and this happens to the left and right ones on equal basis (rear more than fronts) but when you get in there and change the brakes you disturb the metal dust and I have seen cases where the ABS light comes on right after brake work because of that difference in brake dust on the sensor.
By cleaning them all the time you minimize the chance of comeback.
I'm still very suspicious that both a front and a rear sensor have failed suddenly, but since I don't have the car here to measure the values, I can't rule them out either.
Each sensor should have a nominell value of 1K Ohm (800-1400 Ohm. And each sensor should produce a 0.15 - 0.7 V.ac when the wheel is rotated at different speeds.
As I said, I have seen far more ABS ECU go bad than wheel sensors on the 900 model.
