I went for mexican food the other day and had some take-out steak fajita in doggie bag, which I placed in between the seats like an idiot. Well, it tipped over and all the food and juices leaked into the ignition key hole. Didn't realize until I got home, so I wiped it all clean around the key hole.
Next morning I could hardly turn my key from it being so sticky and was late for work. So, I poured some water in the ignition key hole and it loosened up a bit and was able to get going. (Water accidently spilled in their previously many times with no problem so I thought a little more water couldn't hurt and clean up the sticky mess) Well, it worked but would get very sticky again after a while and had to pour a little more water in everytime I had to start. When I turned the key, sometimes it would get stuck all the way to the 'crank' position and I would have to slightly turn the key back so not to kill my starter. Few days later I poured a little 'goo gone' orange cleaner (we use at work to clean computer microprocessors die's) so I thought it would be safe for ignition. Well this pretty much got rid of the stickiness and I could turn my key like normal again with no water needed after that.
But now I've been having a harder time starting the engine. I turn the key all the way, lights and radio turn on but car doesn't crank. I have to try it again, wait a few minutes, try again and keep doing this for minutes until ignition will finally start.
I know it must have something to do with me pouring water and goo gone in the ignition key hole or that the key got stuck to crank position too long and burned up something? But once it is able to 'catch', it starts up right away. Any ideas??? I'm bad mechanic but have a bentley manual. thanks for reading....
