Russ, you best forget those XJSs ifn ya wanna retain your bank account, and your sanity. Mel is correcto! The V12 is incredibly difficult to work on or around, thousands of eensy-teensy parts. Every single Jag part, no matter how common, is multiple times more than other cars (if you can find 'em!) The car has terrible reliability, always something new and expensive breaking, and it's a big part of what drove Jaguar's rep way down.

I was empassioned with big Austin-Healeys for 30 years, 3 of 'em from 1962 to 1990, but they are far simpler (as is TR6) than any Jag. Trying to find today's equivalent for my cherished '67 3000, I did look briefly at XJS, but actually ended up with a wonderful '90 Nissan 300ZX. My first Japanese motorcar, actually. It has turned out totally reliable, nothing ever breaks, and it does feel like the 1990 version of what Healeys might have become. No regrets, and I may look for a pristine '96 Twin Turbo when I wear this one out (probably impossible!). The 90-96 ZX is a great compliment to a Saab Turbo, similar performance, different moods.

I wish your logic was true, that having done a couple Saabs you could take on a Jag. But it don't work that way. There is a whole galaxy of simplicity and excellence in any Saab that no older Jag can match.

RUSS !!! DON'T DO IT !!!

Sincerely,
Dave of Everett WA
