'87 vs. '94: One BIG difference--the brakes

There are actually many improvements that a '94 convertible has over an '87, but the most important one is the braking system. The '87 is the last year of the old style brakes, which are inadequate and increasingly troublesome to repair/maintain. It is getting difficult to even get good reman front calipers (they are often bad right out of the box!) The older bolt pattern also limits your ability to upgrade the wheels to 9000 styles and sizes.
I would recommend holding out for at least an '88 to get the much improved braking system, if not a '90-'94 which also has ABS. You can convert the '87's brakes to '88-'89 spec, but why when there are so many affordable '88-'94 'verts out there.
