Anyone ever hear of a 900i in the U.S.?

It might sound weird, but my 1985 came with a "900i" badge on the hatch rather than the traditional "900s." It has all the "S" options, and originally had the 8v NA engine. I've had the car since around 1997, and before me it was owned by a lady from Russia. Anyone know where this came from? I'm aware that the "S" was referred to as the "i" in europe, but this is a left-hand-drive car! Running a carfax report yielded no evidence of tampering with the title, it's always been registered as a 900i, so I don't think it's just an issue of an incorrect badge, unless it came that way from the factory. Anyway, whatever information you guys have would be great! Thanks for the help!
