There is a high pressure hose that runs from the slave master (the pedal one) to the slave cylinder. The one on my car had a small hole in it and it would leak fluid slowly. So I replaced the hose, and the added pressure (because it was not leaking anymore, and was generally stronger) created more pressure in the system, which caused the slave cylinder to fail. So, I next replaced the slave cylinder. Kind of a cascading effect, bring one component up to par and it breaks the other stuff that was about to go anyway.
Back to your question... When the slave goes bad, there is a square hole that acts sorta like a drain that the fluid runs down. Look at the ground under your car, in the middle, about 1.5 feet from the front bumper. If there is a puddle there, its probably the slave. Good luck.
