p-side door movement/noise

Since I've now experienced this on both an 86 SPG, and now a 91 SPG, I thought this may be worth posting. Of all the sounds I've learned to live with, this one still drives me crazy.
Under normal acceleration from stationary or very low speed, and when coming to a stop from normal speeds, the passenger side (and to a lesser extent, drivers side) door has some movement, as evidenced by a distinct knocking/creaking.
Not so much a rattle related to bumpy road surface, its seems more related to the car's weight shifting from front to back, and vice versa. The sound almost seems to eminate from around the (B?) pillar between front/rear seats, but it's difficult to pinpoint. Obviously these are high mileage vehicles, so I'm sure there's generally a little more twist and roll in the frame than when they rolled off the line. So, it could just be the frame acting on the door, rather than the other way.
Anyone else experience this, or diagnose it? On my 86, I've tightened the hinges, latches and so forth, with no difference. On the 86, we've replaced the tiny plastic sleeve on the door latch mechanism. Pillar welds 'look' ok. Perhaps an inherant weak weld somewhere in the door's sheet metal? Any insight appreciated.
