The air bag is fastened to the wheel by 4 torx screws from the back, and a simple electrical plug. Make sure you do not turn on the ignition during or after removal as this will set a code requiring reset by dealer or good indy. If you are nervous or there is a chance someone will turn on the ignition while you have the bag out, just disconnect the battery negative cable prior to removal.
There is no chance of the bag going off accidently once out of wheel.
The wheel is fastened with a 22mm nut on the column. When you have remove the wheel, do not turn the "clock spring" wiring spool from its position. If it gets uncentered, the wire can be torn by a full lock turn. If the new wheel does not have airbag provision, you can hook a resistor into the circuit to simulate the bag's presence. I recall it's a few hundred ohms, but I would do some searching on various boards(BMW) for the proper resistance. Or you can say the hell with it and take out the SRS bulb.
