were great car's. The 80 was the family truckster when I got ahold of it in highschool. I abused the heck out of it and it never really minded, granted that was 16 and the car was only 13, not 23. I picked the 79 up in college and it had been converted to 16v turbo. from the curb it looked pale blue with rust issues and matching blue interior (loved the pop in head rests) but underneath was another story. I had made some other modifications to it and talk about stealth, would fool everyone to what the car could actually do.
I know none of what I've said helps your situation but what I can say is make sure you know the car and being a B engine, how's the water pump? How is the wiring harness in the engine compartment? 23 year's will take it's toll on the wire insulation, especially the starter conveniently located behind the exhaust manifold.
none the less, great car. the seat belt's alway's made for conversation and the rear headrest as a pillow. Someday I wouldn't mind finding another 5 door to have some fun with. Good luck, take care
