as the other night, when I was wrapping up an auto to 5-speed conversion on my '91 convertible, I was mentally composing a post of praise regarding the Gearwrench. I love them. My father bought them for me for my birthday in Oct. 2002. He was looking for a booster pack for me but couldn't find the Solar at Sears so he hesitantly bought me a 10-19 mm set after checking them out. When he gave them to me he said "The receipt's in the bag because I know how you are about tools". He's right, I'm picky. I've always shied away from gimmicky tools as they have invariably disappointed me (Sidewinder ratchet anyone?). The old Craftsman "dogbone" ratcheting box wrenches were the worst.

But the Gearwrench has become my wrench of choice. They are thin, have a great feel, the finish is beautiful and the ratchet end fits in all the places that the dogbones used to give me the bone. I wanted to give a list of often miserable tasks on the C900 that bring a smile when performed using them. The list includes the belt tensioner adjustment nuts on the AC and PS pumps and the hideous bolt at the base of the AC compressor bracket. I was trying to remember if they gave advantage on the bolts at the rear of the head on a 16v (on the underside) but can't. They might have let me down there. But it doesn't detract from my satisfaction with them as they have worked well in countless other instances. Like I said, they're generally the ratcheting tool I reach for first now.

Do yourself a favor the next time you decide you've earned a treat. BTW Sears also carries them branded as Gearwrench rather than Craftsman. They are a little cheaper in that for the same price a couple of more sizes are included. They're the ones I got.
