Its either collapsed lifters or a bad timing chain. If it is a ticking sound - lifter, if it is a rattling sound - timing chain. If its the rattling sound, quit running the engine before the chain breaks. By the sounds of it, you said the tensioner was more than 11mm out and the timing marks did not line up quite right, the chain is shot. Usually around 125,000 miles is when the chains start to go. Get ready to take your engine out again unless you have the tool to roll in a new chain.
