Keeping in mind my car is 16v, on my 87 SPG, I'm quite sure that the BPV smallbore hose had to connect on the manifold AFTER the throttle plate, in order to actuate the valve by vacuum. I would think the same concept would apply to the 8v engine?
Having it connected BEFORE the plate will defeat the purpose because there is less vacuum there than behind plate, plus that is the location the BPV takes air from, so pressured air from two hoses will be pushing into the BPV... not good.
Further to other questions, I was told by a dyno shop owner that technically MAP controlled cars could use BOV's and not affect performance, but AMM cars with no map sensor should not use BOV's because the lost air will screw up the AMM. An expert friend told me that is true, but many drivers are using BOV's anyway and living with the effects..
However, your 85 is a different setup with the air flow sensor... maybe it will work. its worth a try,
well maybe it isnt. i drove a car this weekend with a BOV and it was like a pistol going off every time i hit the clutch, very irritating!!!! if you have an 8 valve engine, stay with the BPV unless you are running some sort of high-perf car and want to protect the turbo from any damage whatsoever...
and further to that, there are lots of good BPV's out there you should consider over the stock Bosch unit. Group9 has some, also HKS.
Overall M, you really need to get the opinion from some hi-perf 8 valve drivers.
Try posting on the Performance board too.
