1990 900 -- Opinions/Advice Please

Situation
I am wanting to stop working late this summer so that I can finish my Master's degree. In an attempt to cut expenses to achieve this goal I am contemplating selling my 2002 Miata to buy a 1990 900. I hae a buyer for the Miata at $14,000. I can buy a 1990 900 for $2,200. The 900 has 126,000 miles and is in good shape.
Question
I realize there is now way of knowing what a 14 year-old car will cost to maintain, but I am wondering if you think it would be less expensive to drive the 900 for a few years as oppossed to keeping the Miata and its large monthly loan payment. I did own a 1996 900SE that I maintained myself, so I am familiar with SAABs, and I can do my own maintenance (old changes, spark plugs, filters, fluids) I am challenged, however, when it comes to doing "repairs."
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
