I'm with SWEDECAR. The mechanic that looked at it doesn't sound like he knows what he's doing. From the info you provide it is not possible to offer some suggestions about what might be wrong, but most likely it's a relatively cheap fix.
If you can provide some more info, it may be possible for the folks here to provide some help.
When you say it died, what exactly did it do and/or not do?
I presume it was running before you parked it, but did it exibit any unusual symptoms in the past few days/weeks?
Has any work been done on it in the previous weeks or months?
Will the battery turn the engine over? (If the battery won't turn the engine over, you've probably got a dead battery and maybe a problem with the alternator)
When you turn the key to the ON position, do the red idiot lights come on (particularly the ALT light)
If the engine turns over, what happens?
Does the car run now?
