DIY alloy wheel straightening?

Generic Saab alloy wheel question:
I have several alloy wheels (various years) that have small perversions to roundness on the inner wheel rim - no big dings or cups or .....
Wheel straightening places quote $80 + for an average wheel.
Can I just gently and slowly do this myself. Remember these are minor perversions, but bad enough that my trusted local tire place says that they are not useable in that condition.
Has anybody attempted this, with or without success?
Cheers from Vermont, where Fall is .... falling.
