No,pilot bearing is easily removed with flywheel in car Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Wed, 22 Sep 2004 08:37:42 In Reply to: If he did a complete job and replaced the pilot, RS [Profile/Gallery] , Wed, 22 Sep 2004 05:47:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You use back side of the Saab special tool (a key slot) and stick a bolt with nut inside the pilot bearing.
Hook the tool around the bolt and pry the pilot bearing out.
About 30 sec of labor.
Shops that don't have flywheel machine capabilities in house might hesitate to resurface the wheel since it will take a longer time to drive it over to another shop.
If the flywheel looks decent to them they might just sand off the surface and install a new clutch. That probably works good in "most" cases.
This time though it came back and "bit him in the behind".
Another question raised, did he replace the clutch shaft seal? That is another thing many shops don't do.
