Many of the used Saabs that I have inspected that are for sale have low level or empty cooling tanks. This brings my offer WAY down in price, but doesn't scare me away completetly. It is a sign of bad maintenance, or servicing by a mechanic that does not know Saabs very well. Thermostats are a routine regular maintainance item with Saabs. Could be bad headgasket, if no obvious leaks are found. I have found bad radiators cause the heat to rise proportionallly with how old they are.
I own 2 900's a 92 & a 93, both have new radiators, and borth run at 1/4 on the guage. If it goes up from there, I immediately check coolant & oil level.
I use Zerex G05 coolant. If it leaks it leaves a chalky residue, making it very easy to spot leaks.
