Seal leakage is the problem with synthetics, as you say. Quite honestly, on old generation 900s, I can't see the benefits of superior lubrication outweighing the costs of main bearing seal replacement. The B202 engines are so rugged I think the benefit of less wear and tear on the motor from using synthetic oil is minimal. And synthetics are not going to prevent timing chain, crank pulley, or head gasket wear and tear. That is where much of the maintenance is on these motors.
