Ok this is my $0.02, I do the same thing with my 89 C900TC BUT I do it at a much lower speed then you. I only do it below 5mph. Yes the top works like a sail but putting the top up at 5mph is the same as putting the top up when you are standing still in a 5mph head wind (a 5mph wind is nothing, Take a look next time you put the top up when parked on a windy day). I don’t see anything in the manual about max wind speeds for safe top operation. Just use common sense in doing this. The safety switch in the parking brake is to stop people who should not have a conv. In the first place from putting the top up at 30mph (witch would kill it). One more thing to remember is that wind rule works both ways. If you are going 5mph into a 5mph head wind then the force on your top in now 10mph. So yes I feel it is safe just remember the wind and you will be fine. But slow down a little more is all. Good luck and I am sure others think I am nuts on this but I feel I have a better then most understanding of the wind forces acting on my car.
