I'm not ChrisM, but I though I'd let you know what I tried.
I put some blue LED's in parallel and installed them. I forget the installation details of soldering, twisting leads, etc. The problem I ran into was that the color was nice, but they were not bright enough. I ran more in parallel, but still too dim. I abandoned the idea and went back to standard bulbs.
Perhaps I got the wrong LED's, but hindsight tells me it's not worth trying again.
