on the way home, the exact same sequence happened--- car started and ran ok, then started stumbling after 15 min. Seemed a little worse over some bumps. When I got home, I popped the hood and wiggled the connector at the side of the distributor, and sure enough, it stumbled badly. It's not the cable, it's the black plastic connector that is fastened with a plastic rivet to the distributor body--- it is quite loose. As an emergency bandaid, I put a thick cable tie around the distributor body to keep the connector from rattling around. Then I test drove it for 20 minutes, and no stumbles, power is back where it should be! I'm guessing the 15 min lag is just long enough for the engine & distributor to get hot, and the internals of the distributor gets loose enough to cause trouble? So how hard is it to rebuild the distributor? I suspect my cable tie could melt in there and make a mess...
