A new cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, and air filter will at the very least improve your gas mileage. Might also help with the Engine's torque as well although this would hardly be an effect you would feel. I have an '88 S and find that to drive aggressively you just need to let it rev a little higher (say 4000 or so). 4th on the highway is a very usable gear.

An alternative is to install a light pressure turbo set-up but this requires a donor turbo car, a fresh headgasket, and willingness to dick around with stuff. too much work for me.

I say just get used to driving it at higher revs - that's where the real advantage of the 16v head comes in anyway.
