Re: Rear shock lower bolt - nut size?..... Posted by vsfoxe [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Rear shock lower bolt - nut size?....., vsfoxe ![]() |
Thanks for the info & suggestions. Ended up using 18mm Vise-Grips and the electric impact wrench I got many years ago. Took a while, but it worked. That Craftsman tool has saved me Many times!
Then I made a "pusher" to push the lower shock bolts out. Nice of Saab to put that "strategic hole" in the spring bracket! Cut a perfect length of 10mm bolt threads, added 2 nuts, and pushed the bolts out by moving one of the nuts.
Pried the bottom loose with the Pinch Bar. Added a 4" piece of wood to the smallest jack and push the shock up just over the top of the spring bracket. Pushed it to the outside of the spring bracket, inside the hose.
I was installin good used SPG shocks, so I ground some of the teeth on both ends of the lower bushing so it went in reasonably. Fed the shock up between the hose and the spring bracket, jacked it to compress it, knocked it into place and fastened them. Gotta love Anti-Seize!
What an UGLY job! But a nice improvement. The Bentley procedure seemed a little optomistic and light on this one!
Thanks to this BB for all the available info.
