1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I have had my 1991 900S 5spd 3dr for about 2 years and it has 170k miles on it now. I bought the car for 3000 dollars. Its white, grey leather, and runs fine with some attention and upkeep.
This week I came accross a 1989 900 turbo automatic (also white, grey leather and 3door) The outside is in great shape minus some paint fading. The inside is in pretty good condition except for a headliner problem on the sunroof....the carpet is kind of ratty too, but thats it. This car has only 105,000 miles on it.
The car was 1 week from having its Catalytic converter chopped off for 50 bucks and then hauled to the crusher because the automatics forward gears dont engage.
I bought this car today for 200 dollars.
Its stressing me out, I'm not sure what to do with it!
I can take it apart and use it to replace some of the not-so-good parts on my 91. and Keep around for replacement parts for as long as I have my other 900.
I can fix this low mileage good condition 900 turbo and use <and love> it also. There is a "good used" auto trans for a 1991 900 in my area for $400. I could put it in my self....albiet in a long period of time.
I could try to identify the specific problem with this 89's transmission and see if an in car repair is possible.
I'm in love with the turbo engine and cant stop thinking about putting it in my 91 900S. But if I was going to do all that work, I might just be better off putting the used trans from the junk yard in the 89.
Can I somehow get the turbo system going on my 2.1L engine? Maybe put all the turbo parts on it and leave the waste open or partially open? I know my engine management on the 2.1 will not accomodate the turbo.
I just dont know what direction to take with this new oppertunity.
What do you think? I'd love to talk about this with someone. I could use some new, better ideas also
