1989 900 turbo 3 door automatic w/ 105,000miles:
Drives in reverse perfect.
When in D 2 or 1 the trans does not do anything and behaves as though it were in neutral.
Fluid is full, not burnt, just ruby red.
Nothing has been checked yet by anyone.
What can I look at to try and identify the problem?
Linkage?
What can I check under the pan?
I plan to drop the pan, look at the filter, change the fluid, inspect the linkage, try a transmission fluid flush with cleaning chemical.
I heard a friend had this problem in some old pickup truck. He added a flush chemical and let it idle in the "dead" drive position and after 2 hours the transmission started to engage forward gears and and eventually came to drive fine.
I dont want to belive that this transmission will never work again.
I'm just asking what I can do/check to (hopefuly) get it working a little while longer.
From what I understand, this happened suddenly to its previous owner. The car is in great condition and the engine runs wonderful. I bought the car this week for $200 and would enjoy making it drive again.
