If you've got a coolant leak in the cabin, then it's most likely not the heater core; it's most likely the heater control valve, which conveys coolant through the firewall, then controls its passage through the core. This is a known fault. IIRC, pro Saabtech Anders once posted that he's not yet encountered a bad core.
Search here for "heater control valve" to turn up innumerable posts on the problem, as well as advice on replacement.
