There's been some debate on tach bounce

When I'm starting out first thing in the morning, I'm usually too fogged to remember to look to verify whether that's true or not.

I sympathize about the snow. Quite a few years ago (back in the dark ages), I had the dash out of a Volare in the depths of a CNY winter, trying to trace why the heater fan didn't work. My father-in-law took it to the dealer (&*^#&#!!!) to fix that problem and they made it worse - it didn't charge when they got done with it. Turns out that the so-and-sos cut a wire instead of replacing a specialized relay in the charging circuit - strange setup. (SAABs are relatively straightforward, except for the foglight circuit - which grounds through the high beam filament.)

Volares did have a bit more room to work under the dash, though. I hope that you get a few warm days soon.
