If Shell Aroshell Fluid 4 is the original 'Saab' Fluid - great. If, however, Brian's email is below that this fluid is red then its not the stuff used here in Australia! Moreover, since there is the risk of fluid spill under the carpets (which I had) I would want a clear liquid!

You can buy the oil from Saab - its just a little pricey. I went to Castrol with the spec and their answer was a high quality hydraulic fluid (mineral, 10W non detergent) called (if my memory is correct without access to my notes at this computer) Castrol Hyspin 32. This is only available in bulk. However, they also sell it as 10W mineral motorcycle fork oil - which is available off the shelf without the hassle of bulk or internet. I've used it and had no problem.

In terms of bleeding the system, there appears to be some disagreement between messages on this BB and other sites. Certainly if the system was off the car, you can bleed it with motor higher than pumps etc. However, I would not be going to this hassle if I was repairing/replacing one piston - I would bleed with the system on the car. With a cylinder/ram out but still attached to the lines its possible by releasing clips to get sufficient lenghth to turn the piston up side down and back to ensure all air is expelled when bleeding. You must have a few breaks to allow aerated fluid to clear. I have also read that some have bled the system successfully with the whole system installed. The design off the system is to a large extent self bleeding when in use.
