manual tranny not so bullet proof. ideas anyone?

coming to stop lite, downshifted into second to decel car. Ground like I went into reverse. Jeez. nearly impossible to jam into first now unless car is rolling slowly or seems to if just lightly loading up with clutch a little. shifting into second too fast gives the grind. slower than normal shift into second is ok but feels stiff. 3-5 ok. nearly impossible to work thru gears when car is not moving/shut down. so far, pulled shifter boot and lube, didnt seem to help. this started all of a sudden. had been working fine. 80 K miles on 91 900. Help appreciated. Linkage or shifter rails/synchros???
