The motor I believe sits way at the rear wall of the trunk, about in the center. Cables run all the way up to the sunroof.
But my suspicion is it's unlikely the motor but probably a problem with the switch, keep trying it, or pry it up and pry up one of your similar switches, such as a rear door window switch, make notes on where the wires go on each, and exchange them. First of course check the fuse.
If the sunroof didn't suddenly quit but has been sticky in operation recently, maybe you do have some kind of a mechanical problem. If you can get it to strain and try to move at all, you can get a palm under it and while pushing up, push it towards closed position while triggering switch and it might shut. That is, give it a little help.
