Funny, I hit 196k today on my '88. I also worked on the water pump over the weekend and have a growing leak back there.
I'm afraid I cannot relate to questions about installing or removing the crank pulley in situ; I did mine when the motor was out. I know, I am fairly lucky sometimes. That crank pulley probably won't fail in any sudden, catastrophic manner unless your belt tensions are way high or your alternator is askew due to worn rubber mount bushings; my crank pulley was making noise on startup for close to three years before I finally fixed it.
First, be sure the lowest water pump mounting bolt and the alternator tension bracket pivot bolt are tight. They help to hold the timing cover on! Not the alternator pivot bolt, but the pivot bolt for the bracket that holds the alternator in tension and also adjusts the double-belt tension.
Second, replace the crank bearing seal whenever you do the crank pulley as it is right underneath. They are available from site sponsors. Oil pump seal is at your discretion, i. e. how bad if at all it is leaking and how long you plan to have the car. I don't know about the CPS because I've never done one of those.
Third, Saab sells special tools, both a flywheel lock and a crank puller bolt remover. Here are the part numbers referred to by Monsieur Bentley himself:
Flywheel lock 83 92 987
Crankshaft bolt removal 83 92 961
They also sell a sleeve and wrench for installation of the seal; I just used a socket and even, gentle pressure with a hammer. Be sure to follow instructions like this one in chapter 216 of my 8 valve book:
"The old seal was originally installed flush to the cover surface. The new seal should be installed slightly deeper so that it does not ride on the same area of the shaft. This will allow for a good seal despite any wear."
Chapter 220 (Lubrication system) shows the tool working on the bolt and does more in-depth info for those removing the oil pump.
Torque the crank pulley bolt to 190 Newton Meters or 140 foot pounds.
Good luck.
