Pre-lubing a rebuilt cyl head

Ok, I'm all set to put the old 8v back together. I got the head back from being rebuilt on Friday. It looks brand new. I was wondering if I should pre-oil it before I put the valve cover back on. If so, should I use regular motor oil and just pour it over the cam, or WD40, or something else?
Also, just want to make sure that all I need between the head and the block is the head gasket. No other sealants?
And finally, what's the orientation of the exh manifold gasket/shield? Is it, cyl head->exh man gasket->heat shield->exh manifold? Or does the heat shield go first?
TIA
KenB
