You may want to consider painting them too so everything looks fresh and matches. Take them off the car and remove the silver strips...all remove easily except for the ones on the very front of the front bumper. Those require disassembly of the bumper to get out...just pop out the one end held with the clips and cover them well with tape.
With the SEM you really don't need the primer because of the reason espgey said...one scratch and it will show through. The SEM is semi-translucent but really covers well but a few coats is necessary for good appearance. Since it is semi-translucent and not thick like a solid color the prep work is a key ingredient to a good job. It wont hide sanding marks or any other minor imperfections that a solid color may cover. So...end up using very fine grit paper or even some fine steel wool. The steel wool works very well in between coats if you end up with some runs or other minor splotches. The SEM dries very quickly so finishing the job in 1 day is entirely possible.
I would not go to the expense of investing in a spray gun. Too expensive...you would need a quality gun and an air compressor to run it so it's just not worth it unless you plan on getting further into body work. The spray cans work great anyway.
Don't worry too much about doing this. The SEM is really easy to work with and you'll be very pleased with yourself after it is all done. I saw the pic of your car here the other day...it is going to look fantastic with the panels on it along with those aero wheels. Nice job!
