NoSnaab makes very good points, however, I disagree on one point. Buy a manual and teach her how to shift. I believe everyone should know how to drive a manual transmission. My wife has a 89 NA 900s and we love it! It is a great ride, handles well and has plenty of power for a teenager. However, look for rust spots, I have never seen rust spread so fast on a vehicle as it has on hers. I am going to take it out of service and do rust repairs very soon before she loses a fender!
