1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I have a 1991 900 turbo , which untill recently was making only base boost. I don't have a bentley yet so i thought id try some things that i read off the net. I hot wired the apc selenoid and got crazy boost. I used the original plug to hold the hot wire on, so 12v also went to the positive (yellow, white) wire that plugs into the apc selenoid. I disconected the hot wiring and I still get crazy boost.did I burn up the apc box? I unplugged the selenoid so as not to burn up the motor cause the boost gage went easily into the red and i have no doubts that it could peg the needle.
case history:
I noticed that the pep slowly went. it got pretty slugish so heres what i did. replaced the distributor cap, rotor, plugs, air filter, vacume lines from the dist to the manifold and the one from manifold to what i think is the fuel pressure reg. on top of the engine near fuel rail. both were severely cracked. I noticed that the apc gage vac line was disconected and capped so i hooked it up. now that i have the gage working It still felt slugish. boost went to about 1/3 into yellow. weeks later the boost suddenly kicked in, and went to the yellow/red line, untill about a day later back to base boost. Here are some interesting things that I have found out while "monkeying around".
1. loud click from apc valve on top of radiator.
2. Click stops when coil-dist wire is moved away.
3. Base boost only when in this position.
4. With coil wire next to the dist. and loud clicking present, i get about 3/4 boost. - I'm assuming some voltage is somehow getting from the dist wire to the apc valve.
5.base boost only, when brake slightly applied during acceleration.
6. with coil wire moved far enough away so that clicking stops, I get base boost only.
7. hardwired the positive side of the apc valve to the battery and I get boost into the red, probobly all the way, but i dont want to kill it.
8. doesn't seem like theres any vacume leaks, cause it idles fine.
9. stalling at startup.... happened a few times, them ran.
I have worked on vintage vw's and know little about saabs, but am learning quickly. If you could help me out that would be awesome.
Thank you very much for your time.
