Extended knocking on a turbo engine can pit the piston heads. I've actually seen pistons completely punched through by extended knocking.
The easy thing to do is to pull the spark plugs and look in. It won't be as easy, because I think you've got an 8V engine, and the spark plug hole doesn't give the nice view the 16 valve does. But try. Peer in with a flashlight, and turn the engine to bring the piston head up into view. If you see chunks and pits in the piston heads, well, there you are. If they look pretty good, then you got away with it.
