I'd like to change the transmission oil on my '86 900 8 valve that has a 5 speed manual transmission.
How can I do this? Bentley provides no information on this. Disuccsion on SAABnet pertains primarily to manual transmissions!
The photo below shows a plug on the bottom of my transmission with the words "gear box" next to it. Do I drain the oil from there? (When I tried to remove this plug, it would not budge.)
Also, are there magnets or filters to clean for a MANUAL 5 speed? If so, how do I get to them?
Thanks!

ps. Bentley says that SAAB does not publish recommended intervals for changing trans oil... some SAABnet discussants say that they do not interpret this as a recommendation for never changing the trans oil, and thus, these folks change their trans oil regularly... but they don't describe how they do it on SAABnet (ie, which parts to remove and clean). Some very well respected discussants say that changing the trans oil regularly reults in a very long lasting and failure-free trans. Other discussants who are equally well respected advise to NOT change trans oil if your car has high milage.
Finally, there is the old battle between those who recommend using synthetic oil in the trans and others who warn against it.
It would be useful for someone to publish an opinion on this that treats the entire subject for MANUAL transmissions (eg, when/when not to change trans oil, how to change the trans oil if it is to be changed regularly, what oil to use) as a whole. It would be a nice TSN contribution!
