I had the same problem and was all due to a vacum leak. change all your vacum pipes and see if that help. You coukld always test the pipes first and If I remeeber right yo ushould get a reading of about -0.6 bar and when you reve it should got 0 then back down as yo ucome of the throttle, this is at idle. if its any less then change oyur vacum pipes. Yo ucan aslo test by spreying carb cleaner ver the join of each pipe, if the engine gags theres your leak, also the dump valve can leak. the vacum leak nocks out your timing etc... and causing the heat. I spent ages tryign tofix my heat probelm, new rad, pipes, water pump, thermostat everyting and all it needed was a few pounds worth of new vacum pipe.
godd luck
