The brushes wear down over time. This is a do it yourself job if you want to save some money. You can jsut order a new regulator. There is also a kit to replace the worm brushes but I found this hard to get right. You have to soder them onto the springs correctly so it slides easily. I even did it one time w/o moving the alternator over. There were two phillips screws that took some work getting at.

Another thought is the bulb that must be working on you instument clusters that allows the alternator to charge properly.

Does the charging light kind of go on and off gradually on your dash lights?
