I called a couple of machine shops to find a self-tapping bolt. Both didn't have what I needed, but could order it in. I wanted to get on the road asap so I went with the helicoil <purchased it at my local auto parts store same day). Since the threads were already stripped, and the aluminum soft, the tap didn't take much to get started. It was a time consuming process non-the-less--making sure the tap took hold, staying level, etc.
