Since it's not quite the same year, you probably should check out wiring drawings on Townsendimports.com to be sure. I think you've got LH 2.2 while mine was LH 2.4.
The ECU wants to see a tachometer signal; then it switches on the fuel pump & starts firing the injectors. On MY car, that signal was carried by a separate circuit vs. the signal to the actual tachometer. So the fact that your tachometer jumps while cranking doesn't really prove that the ECU is getting this tachometer signal.
