Saab makes a special tool to hold the line and "force" the line over the barbs one at a time. I have successfully used the clamp that comes with a flaring tool kit to hold the line and then take a C-clamp to push the fitting in. You get the line over each barb by reclamping every time you get over a barb. That technique keeps the clamp close to the fitting so the line doesn't buckle. A bit tedious, but it works.
Some have noted that you can whack the fitting in with a hammer, but I've been afraid to try that.
