If memory serves (I took it apart just once), the gasket is mostly just as a moisture barrier so the internal metal parts don't rust. That is, I don't believe you will be dealing with fuel flow sections when you take it apart. That said, whatever gasket is there, do your best to not rip it in two, rather, seperate it with a thin blade from whichever side wants to release first. The paper gasket may not be the best moisture barrier, so maybe applying some form of silicone sealant on the gasket surfaces will help. I often coat them in oil before reassembly for that reason too.
