Factory Boost Guages...

I just bought an '85 SPG and currently own an '88 Turbo, and during the test drive this is one of the things that puzzled me.
On my '88, at idle, the boost guage sets at about halfway up in the white and only dips a little from this position during decelleration. On the '85, at idle, the guage is at the bottom of the white. Although the spool-up time on the SPG seemed slower than my '88 they both top at just below the red at the upper edge of the yellow. The SPG did pull hard, but I was confused by the guage reading.
Any ideas which one is right?
