...just getting your hands dirty. Start simple with tire changes and light bulbs. Progress to spark plugs and wiring and cap and rotor replacement. Try tackling simple repairs first, like AMM replacements and gradually as you learn you will feel less and less intimidated and more and more motivated. Starting out on a big DIY with no experience will frustrate you, crush your motivation, and potentially get you in over your head.
You need to get a Bently manual for your car and read the applicable sections BEFORE you do anything so you are prepared. You will need tools, and as someone else said, an adult education course for car repair might not be a bad idea if you didn't grow up with tools the way many of us did.
