I just did mine and came up against the same problem and had the same fear of breaking something more expensive. I drained my coolant inorder to remove the coolant tank. Then using a big pair of channellock pliers I held the section under the tank. It took a lot of force (then it comes loose and for a few seconds you wonder what you broke and look for blood on the hands). Then, in a moment of ecstacy, I quickly started spinning it off and ended up with brake fluid on everything. Take it slow!
