AMM is the Air Mass Meter. It's the black plastic tube with an aluminum top that's between the air cleaner and the engine. It has an electrical connector on the side that should be plugged in.
It is possible that the O2 sensor was damaged. If you used a penetrating oil to loosen it from the old downpipe, it can damage the sensor or, at the very least, make it inoperative for a while. When I unsuccessfully tried penetrating oil to loosen the sensor on my '89 900T, it triggered a check engine light for the couple of days until I was actually able to remove it.
Are both connectors from the O2 sensor securely plugged into their respective spots on the wiring harness?
